A quarter of hive farms in the United States reportedly disappeared in the winter of 2006-2007 alone and 35 states were affected. 

In Europe, many countries reported significant losses as early as 2000.

 In the most affected apiaries, up to 90% of bees are assumed dead because they have not returned to their hives.
