• The Asian hornet, or by its real name, Vespa Velutina, is an insect which arrived in France in 2004 from Asia. In 2017, it had invaded almost all  Western Europe. In France, it appears between July and October in the South-West. It destroys bee hives, because it's its favourite target, and so, accelerates the disappearance of beekeepers. All the insects are preys for it and in France, it's very invasive because it doesn't have any predators. Its stings are very painful, but it will be mortal only if there are many. It's not aggressive except when you get too close to an active nest. The nest can reach one meter high and 0,8 meter in diameter. The asian hornet builds it in spring. The nest is most often located in trees but it's sometimes at ground level, under a frame or in chimneys for example.
