Bees and other animal pollinators contribute to 35 percent of global food production. That’s why bees must be protected. Bees in the cities are healthier and produce more than bees in rural hives. For example urban bees produce, in average, 26.25 pounds of the honey the first year and rural bees 16.75 pounds which is an important difference of production. Also, urban bees have better immune systems. Urban hives create work in little countries like in Haiti, Uganda or Fiji. Beekeepers in those countries have doubled their average wages with the access to the honey market in 2014. In Dominican Republic, the price of honey per kilogram has tripled. There are rumors which say that honey from urban bees is better than honey from rural bees! But that is just a rumor.
